Visitors:
A lot of new with many of the regulars on hand for today's nice flight. Fen
Walker, a young man of about 12 from Roanoke was on hand to see the GE &
several nice streams of BW's fly over. Maybe he & his father will get
hooked on hawk watching & come back to visit us,
Weather:
A mix of sun & clouds ruled the day with NE winds felt on the watch with
upper level clouds moving from the SW. Temps cool to warm mid day then back
to cool at the end.
Raptor Observations:
Hawks were steady throughout the day and most were much lower then the last
two days. An Imm GE was the highlight of the day as GE's are a rarity at
the watch with an average of 3-5 counted per year and to see one in
September is ever more rare. All hawks observed were mostly on the east
side of watch with some over the top. Hawks were streaming most of the
watch with several nice kettles also. BW's by hour 8-9=4, 9-10=64,
10-11=26, 11-12=81, 12-1=12, 1-2=13, 2-3=264, 3-4=16, 4-5=2.
Nice showing of OS with 12 counted
AEBE 12:35, 13:38 & 14:50
Imm GE 11:57
Non-raptor Observations:
Predictions:
Hoping for more hawks then today
