My husband, son, and I got up at 5am on Sunday morning and headed up to
Big Meadow. We had hoped to get some nice deer shots, but due to the
number of people, the deer were scarce. I did however, find a nice area
with a large variety and quantity of birds. Across from the Big Meadow
visitor center, there is a parking area near a trail that goes back
through the meadow. Just to the right of that, there is an area that
has trees, large bushes, and high weeds. I was amazed at the number of
birds in there.
Some of the birds I saw included:
Eastern Bluebirds - many different ages and stages of molting -
definitely the most popular bird in the area.
American Goldfinch
Cowbird
Pine Warbler
and many others that I couldn't ID...I am still trying to learn these birds.
