Hello all
Early this morning Eleine Carwile & I met up & started birding by going to
Mt. Solon to look for the " Tundra Swan " that was reported yesterday .
Tundra Swan NO but a Trumpeter Swan YES . Now for the bad news on this bird
. Its wings are clipped . Who ever owns the pond likes Ducks & Geese . You
can buy these birds for breeding farms out west . They cost a pretty penny
too. So onward -- We went up to Reddish Knob area to look for the Yellow
- throated Warblers but another dip but we did find the Blackburnian family
. At the point where the Y - T Warblers were found yesterday we ran into
William , Greg & Diane .
While up in Augusta County end of Reddish Knob we had a good number of birds
& we also confirmed several species of birds that are breeding .
Ruffed Grouse - 2
Black - capped Chickadee -- 4 to 5 family group -- confirmed breeding
Veery -- 5
Black - throated Blue -- 1
Yellow - rumped Warbler ---11 -- two males singing & 2 hatch year ( Imm. )
with one being fed by female -- new summer peak count & confirmed breeding
Blackburnian -- 1 hatch year confirmed breeding .
Pine Warbler -- 1
Black & White -- 1
Am. Redstart -- 1
Ovenbird -- 4
Canada -- 5 -- 2 were hatch year ( Imm. ) confirmed breeding
Scarlet Tanager -- 2
White - throated Sparrow -- 1 sixth summer record
Dark - eyed Junco -- 57 -- most were hatch year ( Imm. ) peak summer
count & confirmed breeding .
After dropping Elaine off I went out to the Swoope area & found a Great
Egret at Smith's.
