Birding in Clarke this morning produced some good results.
Along the river, highlights included 3 Bald Eagles (two of which were
adults showing some type of pair behavior in the middle of the woods along
the river), 10 species of warbler (FOS Ovenbird, Worm-eating, Louisiana
Waterthrush, FOS Northern Waterthrush, Black-and-white, FOS Yellowthroat,
Northern Parula, Chestnut-sided, Black-throated Blue, and Yellow-rumped),
and a number of FOS Eastern Wood-Pewee, where there had been none the day
before.
A brief stop by the back side of Blandy produced a singing FOS Prairie
Warbler, along with at least 5 singing Yellow Warblers in the field. I
believe I heard a couple of Redstarts singing in the woods, but they
abruptly stopped and I never saw them, so I'll put those down as a maybe.
On the way out I had a good look at a Red-headed Woodpecker, only my third
of the year in Clarke.
