Yesterday, I was notified that a Black Swan had shown up at Willow Lake, near
Raphine. I headed up today to see the Black Swan and the other ducks that were
on Willow Lake. The swan is most likely the same individual that has been seen
in Albemarle Co (just over the Blue Ridge from Rockbridge Co) over the past two
years. Clearly, this is an escapee but it is fun to have it show up in the
county. Also at Willow Lake were a number of Redheads, Ring-necks, Lesser and
Greater Scaup, Canvasbacks, Wigeons, Ruddys, Mallards, Coots, and of course
Canada Geese.
