Hola,
Apologies for this being a day late.
Yesterday evening at 8:50, I watched a flock of seven Black-bellied
Whistling Ducks fly over the large Virginia Gateway Shopping Center parking
lot
in Gainesville, Prince William County. I was standing outside of Target
when the birds flew from the north, heading a little southwest. The birds were
seemingly less than twice the height as the top of the light poles.
Even in the waning light, it was very easy to see the bold white wing
patches on the top sides of their wings while they flapped. The dark belly
and
rusty throat/breast was also noticeable. Without binoculars I didn't see
pink bills or eye rings, but the birds were unmistakable.
There are loads of housing developments and golf courses in the direction
these guys were coming from, and where they were seemingly headed. I
wouldn't be surprised if they have been around for a while.
Cheers,
Todd
