The few hrs that Gerry Hawkins & I spent birding at Bles Park in eastern
Loudoun Co yesterday morning reminded me what a jewel of a park this is with
all its scrub, wildflowers, small wetlands (most of which are impenetrable
because of the brambles & thick scrub that surrounds them), & the woods along
both the Potomac and Broad Run. During our visit there we found 47 bird
species of which seven were warblers and seven sparrows.
In addition to at least 10 Eastern Phoebes there were really large numbers of
Field Sparrows, Swamp Sparrows, and White-crowned Sparrows.
Most of the birds were in the scrubby meadows & wetlands with a few along the
edges of the woods and few on the river or Broad Run, itself.
