Greetings,
Quite a birding bonanza for me this morning, out at the Manassas
Battlefield, mainly along the Stone Bridge/Bull Run area.
Here are the highlights:
* Great Horned Owl (being mobbed by crows)
* Chimney Swift (3)
* Red-headed Woodpecker (seen in the same area along Bull Run on 4/1-two
seen then)
* Yellow-bellied Sapsucker
* Common Raven
* Brown Creeper
* Ruby-crowned Kinglet (16-most in one day for me)
* Blue-gray Gnatcatcher (2)
* Palm Warbler (5)
* Black and White Warbler
* Vesper Sparrow
* Purple Finch (2)
Other goodies: N. Harrier, E. Phoebe (4), Barn Swallow (6), Brown
Thrasher (4 along Sparrow Alley), Pine Warbler (3), Yellow-rumped
Warbler-yes!, Chipping Sparrow (2), E. Meadowlark (5)
Funny sightings:
* Belted Kingfisher chasing a Wood Duck up Bull Run
* Two male Belted Kingfishers dueling in the skies over Bull Run. Such
raucous rattling!
A fine morning to be out!
