I gave my mother, who then thought I was a crazy bird lady, a bluebird box for
Mother's Day. Immediately bluebirds began to nest and instantly my mother
became fascinated and attached. She just called me this morning and told me
that the male, female, and 1-2 offsprings (we presume) have returned to the box
and are showing lots of activity.
Questions:
1) I can't imagine bluebirds nesting this time of year. Are the bluebirds using
box for warmth/shelter/sleep with the cooler nights?
2) My mom wants to get more bluebird boxes. Can someone remind me how far apart
the boxes should be (facing south, correct?) .
On a different note, I had one hummingbird hanging around feeder yesterday. I
have not seen/heard any hummingbirds this morning.
