While leaving to the boardwalk area around 11:15 this morning I first heard
the wirey/nasal call and then had a single Blue-gray Gnatcatcher (FOS) fly
across the boardwalk and perch in a very close small tree.
Earlier I was with a group when we first heard and then saw a single
Lousiana Waterthrush about 100 yds. prior to the boardwalk, in the wet area.
The Virginia Rails were calling almost constantly when we arrived at their
area but nobody had seen them. The Sora was spotted 3 times early in the
morning by one birding couple.
A single Green Heron was espied, along with a Great Egret.
Two Rusty Blackbirds were seen as I was leaving very near the bird feeders
and picnic table at the Visitor's Center.
Wind was strong beginning around 8:30 and that probably kept flight activity
down a bit.
