Yesterday I decided to make a dash to where Wendy Ealding, Lee Adams and Dan
Purkutchin saw two BWW's on Ogle Creek Rd. north of Covington, VA last Thursday
and see if they were there and if I could get some photos.
I arrived at 9:15am (approximately 7.5 miles down Ogle Creek Rd. from I-64
there is a turn-in on the left into an open, shrubby area). After fifteen
minutes I got the briefest glimpse of one and then nothing for the next
forty-five minutes. I began to doubt that first glimpse. Then a beautiful BWW
landed in the blackberry's and bushes right in the center of the area and I did
indeed get some photos. http://www.flickr.com/photos/40090747@N05/
Also at this spot I saw a Worm-eating and a Black and White and as I drove back
down Ogle Creek Rd., I almost ran over (well, not literally) a Louisiana
Waterthrush. Thank you, Wendy for the directions. They were spot-on.
I then drove down to the Blue Ridge Parkway, where I saw not a sign of a Ruffed
Grouse. At Sunset Field Overlook I did go a bit over a mile down Warbler Rd. as
well as Radar Rd and had Black-throated Blue, Black and White, Redstarts and
Hooded as well as Juncos galore. But no dang Grouse anywhere...
Cheers for now,
