Thanks for a tip from you birders and Mr. R. Bruce Richardson, the boys and
I made a trip to Alleghany County to try for the blue-winged warbler north
of Covington. We arrived at the brushy field about 7:30, but did not see or
hear the BWW until 9:00 a.m. We then had good photo opportunity-a welcome
change from thinking we had driven several hours just to be skunked.
We also saw a barred owl after leaving the brushy field and heading back
toward Covington. It flew across the road and gave us good looks, but no
photos.
