This morning I drove about a 5 mile radius around Concord in Campbell
County for about 2 hours from 7:30 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. I covered Toll Gate
Rd., Booth Road and SR 737.
I did not see many birds because of all the heavy foliage and pasture grass
but in 2 locations I had bobwhite quail calling to each other.
In one area I identified 4 different birds and in another 2 birds. Chats were
the most common birds in the areas I covered. I did actually see one fly
across the road into a large tree which also contained a yellow billed cuckoo
vocalizing loudly. Other birds seen or heard
were, indigo buntings, many cardinals, titmouse, bluebirds, towhees,
meadowlarks and chipping sparrows. Common yellowthroats were singing in two
areas with creeks and in one replanted loblolly pine plantation there was a
white eyed vireo.
Shortly after 9 a.m. in this hot weather most of the birds stop singing so
I returned home for breakfast.
