Hi,
I just wanted to report that this morning I finally checked out an area
less than a half mile down the road from my house where I've been hearing a
Broadwinged Hawk calling this spring and summer in early morning. Sure
enough, there was a nest in a large Tulip Poplar with one young out on a
branch,
about 10 feet away from and above the nest, and a second young-un still in
the nest.
The fledgling on the branch had a downy grayish-white head (as did the one
still in the nest) and a feathered body, mostly brown with some small
white areas on its back If this description tells anyone about how old the
bird out of the nest is, I'd appreciate knowing.
I couldn't see all of the nest so it's possible that there might be more
than just the 2 young birds.
Sincerely,
Marlene
