VA Birders,
Yesterday morning (Tuesday, April 23), Bill Cross, Betty Kilgore, and I
spent about 3 hours at Fort Smith Park, and we counted 22 Broad-winged Hawks
flying over during that time. Amazingly, all of them came over very low, and
we had good to excellent looks (depending on the light) at them, in fact,
some of the best looks I have ever had. I went over to the park for a short
time on Monday afternoon after the sky cleared, and I had 2 Broad-wings then.
If it rains tonight and tomorrow morning as predicted, it might be worth
looking for more hawks there tomorrow (Thursday) afternoon or Friday morning.
