Late Wednesday morning (12/23) I observed a Brown-headed Nuthatch feeding on
suet hanging under the deck. This is my first record of this species in the
Mountains & Valleys region of Virginia. This bird has eluded me in the M&V for
nearly 40 years! Although extremely uncommon in this area, over the years these
nuthatches have been recorded several times in the Roanoke Valley...I just
haven't been lucky enough to see one until now.
