I birded our local impoundment yesterday, 3/6/2011, with my son, Evan,
resulting in several new highs for the site. Of note were 16
Ring-billed Gulls, 16 Green-winged Teal, and 17 Lesser Scaup. Also
present were 18 Mallards, 4 Hooded Mergansers, and six Canada Geese.
Singing Pine Warblers were rarely out of earshot, at least for Evan's
young ears.
A pair of Common Ravens has been hanging around our house for the last
few weeks, and they called loudly over our heads as we hiked north
toward the lake.
This body of water is on private land in eastern Buckingham County,
north of the intersection of routes 650 (Bell Road) and 667 (Belle
Branch Road). It is clearly visible on Google Maps and Google Earth.
