Yesterday, I headed up to Dayton VA - Shenandoah Valley Produce Auction - to
look for the Am Golden Plovers and the Buff-breasted SP. It was much colder
and windier than I expected. The AM Golden Plovers were in the middle of the
field along the driveway to the auction and were too far away for photos.
There were about 40 Pectoral SP feeding along the driveway along with the
Buff-breasted SP. In addition there were Horned Larks and I would guess close
to 1000 Tree Swallows. They were resting on the metal roof of the auction
barn. At one point, a Cooper's Hawk flew in and buzzed all of the shorebirds -
there was the expected panic and they all flew off to some other location, but
returned about 30 minutes. I also found a lone Eurasian Collared-Dove on a
wire at one of the farms.
In addition to a few photos of the sandpipers, dove, and hawk, I have up-loaded
some photos of warblers along the Parkway from the past week. It's been
difficult keeping up with photos and teaching in the COVID-world.
