Visitors:
Tons of visitors including many regulars (too many to list at this pay
grade and hour of writing), and at least one irregular.
Weather:
Great visibility with distant ridges crisp, high cloud layer all day,
mostly cloudy early and late with a few scattered low clouds. Temperatures
44 to 56 F, and winds N to NE at 10 mph decreasing to 1-3 mph.
Raptor Observations:
A fine flight of 11 raptor species began early today with 71 birds seen by
9 AM. First bird was a BW at 7:17 AM. BW numbers peaked mid-morning 9-11 AM
(884 birds), and again during the noon hour (255 birds), decreasing in the
PM. Two adult BE and 11 immature. All three falcons and 2 NH. Last birds
were 2 BW that passed overhead at 4:13 PM.
Non-raptor Observations:
Hot beverages from Allen Austin warmed frozen hands during the early
morning chill. Boxes of bake sale brownies helped fuel the count. A handful
of dickie birds, including YB Cuckoo, TN Warbler, and 3 RB Nuthatch. Barred
Owl calling for the third day in the past week or so.
Predictions:
High chance for another big flight per forecasted similar weather
conditions.
