Prompted by a posting from yesterday about shorebirds on flooded fields at
Ft Monroe, I spent a couple hours there this morning. I didn't find
several of the species reported, but the highlight was certainly a
Buff-breasted
Sandpiper near the location reported. The bird was foraging in the dryer
part of the field near several Killdeer. If you visit this area, be
respectful of the concrete barriers...crossing them will bring a response from
security.
On the far end of the field was another flooded area which contained 5
Yellow-crowned Night Herons. I made a short stop along the sea wall and found
5 American Oystercatchers resting on the jetty.
