Yesterday, teen Tim Hodge spotted the red-necked
grebe that someone found last week (I think it
was Kurt Gaskill) so I went out to see it this
afternoon. Great views in the scope. From my one
vantage point I couldn't see some of the little
hide-aways but here is what I noted:
1 RED-NECKED GREBE
14 pied-billed grebes
8 horned grebes in varying plumages
55 double-crested cormorants in stunning plumage
with wonderful crests, turquoise eyes, brilliant
throat skin and delicate mottling on the bill.
They were catching fish but the fishermen I
talked to along the shore were not successful.
1 bald eagle adult
1 osprey
1 female bufflehead
138 lesser scaup
2 ring-necked duck ( 1 male, 1 female)
2 ruddy duck ( 1 male, 1 female)
10-ish mallards
5 pairs of wood ducks and one lone male
4 female red-breasted merganser
canada geese
13 coot
5 great-blue heron
2 BARN SWALLOWS my first of the year
1 winter wren
