VA Birders:
This afternoon (27 Dec.), I photographed an adult California Gull at the Prince
William County landfill. The bird had been found earlier by two other birders
whose names I did not get (if the discoverers read this, please let me know who
you are so the record can be properly attributed). I relocated it at about
2:05 p.m. Also present were 3 Lesser Black-backed Gulls (single first, second,
and third-winter birds) and 20 or so lingering Laughing Gulls among the
multitudes of Ring-billed, Herring, and Great Black-backed Gulls present.
Three more Lesser Black-backed Gulls (2 adults and 1 second-winter bird) were
on the Neabsco Creek mud flats later in the afternoon, and a single Laughing
Gull was at the Fauquier County landfill near Warrenton.
