Total observation time: 6.75 hours
Official Counter: Mark Johnson
Observers: Gene Sattler
Visitors:
Fifteen members of the Lynchburg Bird Club and visitors.
Weather:
Mostly cloudy with thick cirrus and hazy sun, occasionally strengthening,
stiff NE weakening through the day, chilly 50s. Clouds almost retreated to
the south but then advanced again in last hour.
Raptor Observations:
Hourly BW count beginning in the 10:00 EDT hour 52, 38, 188, 410 and 4,
with streaming predominating over kettling in the stronger winds. Largest
groups of 140 and 250 in the 1:00 EDT hour streamed to our north just over
Lynchburg and overhead respectively. A respectable eagle count for us in
the stiff wind.
Non-raptor Observations:
RH Woodpecker 6, RB Nuthatch 2, House Wren 2, Pine Warbler 1, Ovenbird 1,
RB Grosbeak 1, Monarchs 73.
Predictions:
Probably the only day of coverage this season with other commitments.
