Hey all, sorry for the late report but I was finishing up some field work near
the crossing of Swift Creek and Seven Bridges Rd., Edgecombe Co. yesterday and
had 1 Chimney Swift twittering overhead. Other recent arrivals included Barn
Swallow, Yellow-throated Warbler, Northern Parula, Blue-gray Gnatcatcher,
Purple Martin, and White-eyed Vireo, with the number of Co. Yellowthroats
bumped up to 10+. The butterfly show was pretty impressive in early afternoon
when the sun was shining, with the highlight being 3 Gemmed Satyrs, my FOY.
BTW, ended the day @ Beech Swamp off 13 Bridges Rd., Halifax Co. NC and found a
few Rusty Blackbirds still hanging around, 7-10 birds. Also flushed a lone Am.
Coot from within the flooded clearcut 2x, it was associating with a hen Mallard
and the first view was so brief the possibility of Common Gallinule came to
mind but the 2nd view confirmed the ID as Coot. Surprised to see one there
regardless. All the best, Nick FlandersRaleigh, NC
