Towhees are year round residents for this western end of the state. In the last week or so they have been singing nearly everywhere I go.

Is it early for towhees? Who knows! My old National Geographic (2002) and my new Peterson (2010) shows them as year-round Virginia residents (I assume in the right habitats); Sibley (2000 and 2003) splits the state, showing them year-round in eastern Virginia.

Heard the lovely "drink your tea" song in the MOCA (Museum of Contemp. Art) parking lot, VA Beach, this a.m. and found my first towhee singing from the top of a tree.

Is this early for this area?
