We just returned from a few days (November 11-14) at Chincoteague NWR.
Wednesday and Thursday were mostly cloudy and overcast with one or two very
light and brief sprinkles. Friday and Saturday were blue sky days, but
winds were quite fierce. We saw many of the birds you would expect to see
this time of the year, such as:
Brown-headed Nuthatch, American Oystercatcher, Merlin, Peregrine
and the following birds that were notable to me:
Lesser Black-backed Gull, Bonaparte's Gull, Red Knot, Horned Grebe, Lark
Sparrow, American Bittern, Northern Gannet.
Maybe not so notable, but interesting was a large mixed flock of juvenile
Little Blue Herons and Tricolored Herons. A notable miss was Black-crowned
and Yellow-crowned Night-Heron.
