Greetings to all:
Returned home Friday 03-29-13 from 3.5 days of birding at Chincoteague NWR.
Great trip but missed the Black-headed Gull but saw the Black-tailed Godwit
everyday and most days several times a day and even helped others located
the godwit.
If you are into ducks and who isn't there were tons of Northern Shovelers,
Gadwalls, Black Ducks, Bufflehead and Red-breasted Mergansers.
Shorebirds included both the Black-tailed and Marble Godwits, Dunlin,
Willets, a few Short-billed Dowitcher and Sanderling along with Semi-palmed
Plover, Piping Plover and two Black-bellied Plovers.
Bald Eagles were seen every day and saw a Northern Harrier being chased by
about 30 gulls who thought that they were crows.
On the beach one saw Northern Gannets, Black and Surf Scoters and a few
Common Loons.
While crossing the CBBT on island one saw all three Scoters and Long-tailed
Ducks and Greater Scaup along with Red-breasted Mergansers and Common Loons.
On the return trip while just getting onto island #4 and before going down
into the tunnel I spotted a Great Cormorant perching on the island beside
the bridge.
