Thank you all for replying to my query about Chincoteague's bug conditions. My
wife and I went to the refuge over the weekend and had a pleasant time there.
To my surprise bugs were pretty much not an issue.Bird-wise, as others have
noted, the pools were very dry except Swans Cove, where most of the action was.
We had 12 species of shorebirds and 6 species of terns. Nothing rare, but
seeing hundreds of Red Knots, a few Gull-billed Terns and a single Sandwich
Tern sure was nice. Notable misses were Piping Plover and any Dowitchers, and
we did not record a single Killdeer, not even heard.
