VA BIRDers,
I visited Leesylvania SP and then followed up with Julie Metz and then a
stop at The Point. Birding seemed slow today although an unexpected Common
Raven flying over the northside bluffs at Leesylvania SP was a complete
surprise. Both seen and heard and a Raven essentially flying over the
Potomac is first for me.
The balance of the day was relatively slow; kinglets took the show, a
handful of warbler species, and few hawks. On the way home I scoped Belmont
Bay from the marina and noted the Ruddy Duck numbers have greatly increased
and the American Coot numbers have almost doubled. And lots of Pied-billed
Grebes in the SAV. Below are total numbers for the day's notables at the 4
locations visited.
