Hello Birders,
This afternoon while birding the wildlife loop at Chincoteague, Terry
Jenkins, John Young and I came across what appeared to be a Peregrine
Falcon, however its entire head appeared to be red. It was sitting
out in the middle of a mud flat for a while and then flew off,
harassing an Osprey. We thought perhaps he had been eating a large
animal and the red head was a result of the blood of that animal.
Does that seem feasible? Any other ideas? It was really quite an
interesting looking bird. Wish we were good at digiscoping!
Thanks,
