Yesterday during an impoundment survey at Back Bay NWR a Common Moorhen was
seen well in B-storage impoundment, an area that is currently accessible along
the west dike. A bicicyle makes the trip there from the headquarters a bit
easier. Several King Rails were also seen and heard along that route. During
the beach survey in the afternoon, there were many sandpipers, plovers, gulls,
and terns along the beach, highlighted by 19 Red Knots one of which bore a dark
green flag on the upper left leg with no readable label. Although there was a
significant NNE wind, no shearwaters were seen over the ocean.
