After the storm had passed through this evening, I drove down to the Air Force
Memorial (on the hill above the Pentagon in Arlington) to see if I could find
any Common Nighthawks.
I arrived about 8:45 and immediately found at least 10, probably 11, birds
flying around and feeding in the lights.
When I left, about 9:10, there were still a number of birds visible in the
lights. Based on my experience in past years, I estimate that there should be
Nighthawks intermittently visible for the next two weeks or so. The East
Plaza of United States Capitol and the National's ballpark are often also good
places to see the birds in the bright lights.
Good birding,
