No big migrant fallout at Conway-Robinson State Forest in Prince William County
this morning, but I did manage 9 warbler species (Am. redstart,
black-and-white, common yellowthroat, northern parula, pine, magnolia,
black-throated green, black-throated blue, and hooded). The only decent flock
I encountered consisted almost entirely of pine warblers, which was in the pine
forest (makes sense). This section of the forest also contained good numbers
of red-breasted nuthatches (7) and red-headed woodpeckers. Other notables were
a sharp-shinned hawk carrying a still-struggling downy woodpecker, 7 house
wrens, 2 rose-breasted grosbeaks, 3 thrush species (wood, veery, and
Swainson's), an adult male harrier, and 2 common ravens.
