Woods north of Cub Run Rec Center, western Fairfax County, 29 August 2012
No warblers at mid-afternoon today, but a nice mixed flock included:
Ruby-Throated Hummingbird - 1 F
Blue-Gray Gnatcatcher - 1
Red-Eyed Vireo - 2, foraging together
Most notable, all by itself in a field, was a probably migrating Flycatcher
(Trail's empid). This bird gave me nice long looks, and was also kind enough
not to disturb the peace with any annoying calls or song. Even the 2 Vireos
were silent.
I suspect the empid was migrating because I never see them at this location
during the summer.
