Happy Holidays everyone!
First, I need to thank an unknown birder for passing on information just as I
turned into Dutch Gap Conservation Area.
Second, I need to apologize for posting late. (I'm just getting over a bad
bug, so headed to bed after getting home from my visit.)
I arrived about 8:45 AM, only checked out Dutch Gap Conservation Area and did
not venture into Henricus Park. I saw and counted the following:
12 Turkey Vultures
6 Black Vultures (I did not go to the river landing area so I don't know if any
are still there. These were flying overhead.)
1 Sharp-shinned Hawk (in trees, on left, just pass entrance)
1 American Kestrel (sex?) (on wire along road way to Henricus Park)
1 Immature Bald Eagle (from first lookout at marsh)
10 Ring-necked Ducks (first lookout before Eagle showed up)
2 Northern Shoveler (same as above)
200+ Canada Geese (Along middle to back section of the marsh with hundreds more
flying over)
1 Male Northern Cardinal
1 Northern Mockingbird
3 Northern Flicker (along tree line bordering marsh just beyond electrical
controls on roadway to Henricus Park)
12 Song Sparrows (at tree water edge of marsh)
Two non birds
A pair of River Otters (in the marsh near the first lookout stop)
Correction on Snow Bunting ID from my previous post and on web site. It is a
Male (not female as I first thought. Much thanks for the correction!)
Photos of Immature Bald Eagle and River Otters will be posted on my web site
in a week.
May you all have safe and fun New Years!
