Today Andrew Baldelli and I took a walk down Railroad Ditch in the Great
Dismal Swamp. Starting temperature was 34F, but it warmed up to a balmy 43
by the time we finished. It was sunny and beautiful with very little wind.
Highlights included six woodpecker species, a nice encounter with Rusty
Blackbirds, a couple of nice flocks of robins, bluebirds, and Hermit
Thrushes, and a Blue-headed Vireo. The walk was finished off with an
American Lady butterfly, a hardy lady indeed.
