I spent a couple of hours along Cockpit Pt. Rd. in Dumfries this morning. I
was greeted by a mixed flock of birds near the top of the hill that included
least flycatcher and 8 warbler species (blue-winged, black-throated blue,
chestnut-sided, magnolia, worm-eating, black and white, northern parula, and
American redstart). At the ash pond were single pectoral and least sandpipers.
Other birds along the road included chimney swift, acadian flycatcher, summer
tanager, scarlet tanager, Baltimore oriole, wood thrush, yellow-billed cuckoo,
white-eyed vireo, and a hooting barred owl.
