I was the only one who braved the "snow storm" today to come out for the
weekly Sunday morning 8:00 AM walk at Dyke Marsh. It's sponsored by the
Friends of Dyke Marsh and free for all. There was some snow falling when I
arrived, but eventually the sun came out and it turned into a fairly nice, but
still chilly day. I did not find a great many bird species, but it was
interesting to listen to the "soundscape" of the marsh with many Northern
Cardinals, American Robins, and Red-winged Blackbirds singing. Goldfinches and
Song Sparrows (which seemed to be everywhere) were also chiming in. Most of the
waterfowl seems to have left, but a few Buffleheads and Red-breasted Mergansers
were still around. I also saw a couple of Horned Grebes. a Field Sparrow and a
Brown Creeper. Ospreys were active and fishing in the river.
