Well, thought the thunderstorms that passed thru during the nite would
make for a cooler morning - not quite right. As the sun rose higher,
so did the humidity. Light breeze across the Potomac helped when we
got out on the boardwalk, but it seems like we might be entering the
dog daze of summer.
Core group of myself, John and Barb Perry managed a meager 34 species
on a very quiet Sunday. No big numbers of any species really, Great
Egrets are moving in, two Coots foraged along the bank near the picnic
area, Momma Mallard and 8 newly hatched babies may have been the
largest clutch so far this year at Dyke. Young Osprey are still being
fed in the nest so make the most of the photo ops. TUNDRA SWAN numbers
have gone down to 1 as the healthy bird looks to have flown - guess
instinct trumps the pair bond at some point.
On a "non birding" note, I was able to view the launch of a rocket
from NASA facility @Wallops Island from the Bellehaven Marina on
Wednesday nite. Interested parties can contact me off line for more
info or go to Wallops Island website. As if we didn't have enough
reasons for a field trip to Chinco....
