Fifteen birders came out for the weekly Dyke Marsh bird walk sponsored by the
Friends of Dyke Marsh and free and open to all. The windy conditions were a
bit of an impediment for us, but we still managed to find 41 species.
Highlights included the continuing waterfowl show on the river. We had nice
looks at Pied-billed Grebes and a raft of Ruddy Ducks. There were many Great
Blue Herons and Great Egrets in the area. We found many egrets in the marsh
along Haul Road sheltering from the wind. Other highlights included up close
and personal looks and both Ruby-crowned and Golden crowned Kinglets and a
flock of Cedar Waxwings flying into and out of a cedar tree along Haul Road.
We spotted several Bald Eagles flying around and a distant flying Northern
Harrier which appeared to be passing through. We got the harrier in two
different scopes and had some nice looks as the bird circled around for a short
time.
