We observed our first fledged orioles today as an Orchard Oriole male tended
to three vocal nestlings in the north picnic area. Tree Swallows were
feeding fledged youngsters on the boardwalk. Three Osprey nests are
boasting young. Common Grackles are prolific this year. We tallied fledged
Downy and Red-bellied Woodpeckers. A male American Wigeon, an apparent
nonparticipant in the breeding season, was hanging out with Mallards along
the picnic area shoreline. A Willow Flycatcher, well I am assuming it's a
Willow since it did not vocalize, was foraging in the brushy vegetation just
north of the Haul Road dogleg.
