12 birders joined me for the survey of Belle Haven picnic area and marina
and Haul Road through Dyke Marsh. All are welcome on this walk that meets
at 8:00 every Sunday morning except during Christmas bird count season.
Other than Canvasbacks, both waterfowl and songbirds were scarce.
Highlight for the group was a Red-necked Grebe south of the marina.
Highlight for me was a Hairy Woodpecker pair on Haul Rd, as I usually miss
this species at Dyke.
There were a couple photographers at the screech owl site. They reported
that they had seen the bird earlier today (before 8:30). Our group dipped
both outbound and inbound, but we did not linger.
