Only 2 birders joined me for today's Sunday morning walk at Dyke Marsh,
sponsored by the Friends of Dyke Marsh and open to everyone. There must have
been a big passerine push because of yesterday's weather, because songbirds,
especially Yellow-rumped Warblers and Song Sparrows, literally were
everywhere. Today's best bird was the Lincoln's Sparrow found south of Dead
Beaver Beach. The 2 Northern Parulas, the Eastern Phoebe, and the Gray
Catbird near the marina and the Blackpoll and Black-throated Blue Warblers
near Dead Beaver Beach were other birds worth noting. Waterfowl numbers
were fairly low, but Pied-billed Grebes and American Coots were decently
represented. We were treated to great views of soaring Red-shouldered and
Red-tailed Hawks and flyover Greater Yellowlegs. It may have stared out
chilly, but turned out to be a delightful and quite birdy day.
