I birded Occoquan Bay NWR this morning for about 4 hours. Tons of sparrows,
in all parts of the refuge. Song sparrow took top prize, followed closely
by swamp and white-throated. Also seen were Lincolns, fox, savannah, field,
dark-eyed junco, and eastern towhee. A late Nashville warbler was along the
road near the banding station. A flyover pipit was nice. A meadowlark was
calling from the top of one of the tall poles north of Charlie Rd. In the
river I noted 4 horned grebes, a common loon, and 2 ring-necked ducks.
