Ten birders joined me today for a rather slow edition of the Sunday morning
Dyke Marsh bird walk, with one participant jokingly pelting the leader with
small green fruit to express his displeasure at the lack of activity. Many
of the Dyke Marsh breeders have left and there were few migrants. I spent a
good deal of time even finding titmice. Fledged Orchard Orioles were in the
picnic area. There were a handful of terns along the river and a Traill's
(Willow/Alder) Flycatcher on Haul Road. An American Goldfinch fed a fledged
youngster at the Haul Road dogleg. The injured Tundra Swan and the coot duo
are still present. The highlight was a couple from the UK who racked up two
dozen life birds for their North American list.
