In addition to William Leigh's report, right after we left him, we did find the
COLLARED DOVE sitting on a wire to the north of the road. I got 3 good photos
of it. If anyone would like a copy of them, please respond off-line.
After about 2 minutes, the bird flew directly NE to a woods about 1/2 mile
away. After we had heard it the first 3 or 4 times, we searched all over, up
and down the road, to no avail. But being that the bird eventually returned to
the same area, I presume it may have been around for some time and may well
stay in that same area. Please refer to William's post for directions ( it's
the only bridge on Faught's Rd. ).
If we hadn't stopped to get a wasp out of the car (screaming wife), we never
would have heard that bird in the first place. Also, if we hadn't stopped to
talk to William, we would have just gone on to Leonard's Pond. Serendipity
strikes again! It always amazes me how often that happens!
