This morning I was thrilled to see my FOY BROWN THRASHER hanging around the
wood's edge behind our house (Alexandria, 22303). Funny thing, I could've
sworn I saw one fly out of our backyard barely a week ago, but I didn't get a
good look and chalked it up to being a female cardinal impersonating a brown
thrasher. I think I've heard of these being year round birds in parts of
Northern VA, but I certainly don't see them year round at our house.
Excitedly, sightings of them in our neighborhood seem to be up in the past year
or two.
I visited Monticello Park (Alexandria, 22305) on Monday evening, and I too saw
a good number of HERMIT THRUSHES. The lighting wasn't great, but I do believe
I saw two LOUISIANA WATERTHRUSHES working the stream bed. They were quite
easily seen, and at one point took off flying after one another while calling -
pretty exciting in terms of birdwatching! It's possible they were simply
NOTHERN WATERTHRUSHES, but they did appear bright white than yellow. Nothing
else unusual was seen that evening, but I'm looking forward to the sunny days
coming up!
