Stan and everyone,
There is one record from Montgomery County in Ellett Valley (Roanoke River
drainage). A farmer videotaped four immature Wood Storks on his pond. These
storks stayed from 9 July to 15 July 1990.
I called a few people early yesterday evening, so maybe some of them will be
able to get there.
I am enjoying the pictures with your email.
Best,
Clyde

This afternoon on her way home, my wife Mary Ann, spotted an immature wood
stork in Pulaski County. According to Clyde Kessler (who knows all things),
this is a Pulaski County record and quite possibly a New River Valley record.
The bird was still present at 6 pm. Directions are as follows. From Pulaski,
follow Rt. 11 east. About one mile beyond the corporate limit (the new
elementary school and last set of traffic lights), there is a marshy area on
the left across the four-lane and along Thornspring Creek. From Dublin, go west
on Rt. 11. Pass the traffic lights at the turnoff to Pulaski County High
School. Pass the Cougar Express Store on the right. Pass a barn, farm supply
store on the right. About another half mile will bring you to the spot on the
right. The location is almost directly across Rt. 11 from the new entrance to
the Pulaski Country Club (formerly Thornspring Country Club). The bird was
perched on a dead snag and in plain sight. There is a wide shoulder on the side
where the bird is. But beware that the traffic may be heavy and is 55 mph. Here
are a few shots taken this afternoon.
