Howdy all,
As a surprise, today turned out better than expected. By the end of the 8
hrs of banding we had banded a total of 110 individuals. Not too often we have
back to back 100+ days here in Sept. Diversity was also quite good today,
with 27 different species banded. The best bird of the day probably goes to
the
PHILADELPHIA VIREO. A species we average about one per season. Another good
bird, we an adult CANADA WARBLER that had something interesting about it. To
find out what it was, check out the CVWO blog at _www.cvwo.org_
(http://www.cvwo.org)
We also had another BLUE-WINGED WARBLER today as well. And not to forget our
first WOOD THRUSH of the season.
Overall, it was a nice cool day in which the wind held off for the most part
to allow us to have all the nets open. Not sure what tomorrow will hold, but
the forecast for Friday (the start of the birding festival) is calling for
20-25mph winds. That would be no good for us here at the banding station. Hope
the forecasters are wrong there.
