Hello VA-Birders and Fairfax County Counters,
I walked the 6 miles of trails in Turkey Run Park from Little Falls up to the
American Legion Bridge for the Fairfax County spring count (Saturday from 7 AM
to noon). Turkey Run (the stream) had three pairs of Louisiana Waterthrush in
the half mile in the park. The Peregrine Falcon flew in to its normal dead
snag roost at 8:45 AM from the VA side of the Potomac with breakfast. There is
a 30+ nest colony of D-C Cormorants on the MD side across from the park which
was not included in the count.
On Friday I had four species of swallow over the river plus Chimney Swift; on
Saturday they could not be found.
Another birder added one Barred Owl, one Yellow-throated Vireo and 6 Cedar
Waxwing to my observations.
Abundant Parula Warbler and Wood Thrush singing all morning.
